Construction of footpath
The head teacher and architect met with the Public Rights of Way Officer from Bury Metro (Mr David Chadwick) on Tuesday, 1st July to discuss the proposed route and construction of the footpath around the playground development.
After the meeting, Mr Chadwick was happy for construction of the footpath to go ahead.
"The Highway Authority ’ s concerns relat e d to the possibility of the creation of a n indirect, double fenced path with a number of “ blind ” corners, through an overgrown area that would create a safety hazard for pedestrians.
The meeting confirmed that the path will take a similar line to that one used by the public at present and so will be almost as direct; the only fencing that will be adjacent to the path will be low level and on one side to protect the outdoor classroom areas; there will be sweeping curves rather than angular corners to take the path around the development and whilst much of the vegetation will be maintained, enough will be removed to allow the area of the footpath to be overlooked and safe for pedestrians .
Whilst access for the public from the path to the cricket field will be maintained, it will not be improved or highlighted by the development."
This information will be passed to the local authority's planning office.
